Concrete shower floor will be refinished, and a shower pan installed, among other specified work. The Contractor shall verify all existing conditions prior to the beginning of work.

1.0 Background

Ruth Guard Station is a Forest Service compound in Ruth, CA. The facility includes an engine bay, barracks, offices, fire equipment storage, and a water treatment system. The concrete foundation (slab on grade) of the barracks requires refinishing in the shower room. The contractor will be responsible for ensuring work is up to present day building code.

Ruth Guard Station Barracks men’s bathroom requires renovation for suitable sanitary conditions. The approximate square footage of the bathroom is 200 sf. The shower floor (concrete slab) has insufficient slope and does not effectively drain water. Excess water results in formation of mildew on tiled shower walls. All tiling will be removed, mildew abated, and replaced with new tiling. Mold testing has been performed (surface and air) and no harmful mold spores were detected in the shower room, bathroom, or living quarters of the barracks. Concrete floor will be refinished, a shower pan installed, and a sliding glass shower door will be installed. The threshold of the shower door will match ADA specifications (see attached drawing).

The scope of work is as follows (bid items to be found in Schedule of Items):

1. Inspect electric circuits, conduit, switches and outlets in exposed wall and replace items that do not meet the most current electrical code requirements. Where supply is insufficient or non-compliant, contractor is responsible for all necessary upgrades.

2. Inspect surfaces of materials that will remain. Clean any surface mold with an approved mildewcide and allow drying time before finishing.

3. Remove & replace urinal with low flow urinal (x1). To include all new plumbing hardware and fixtures necessary to complete install.

6. Demo tile in shower room, and re-tile with approved material.

7. Remove shower fixtures (x2), cap off pipe on right side of shower room, and install new shower fixture on left side (x1).

8. Refinish concrete floor of shower room, and install custom shower pan of approved material.
