About this file

This document contains the USDA Forest Service Project Specifications for Pest Control (Section 201200), establishing requirements for pest control services at Mendocino National Forest administrative sites.

The contractor must provide comprehensive pest control services including suppression of indoor and outdoor populations of rats, mice, cockroaches, ants, flies, spiders, and other arthropod pests, as well as incidental stinging or biting insects. Excluded pests are birds, bats, snakes, vertebrates other than commensal rodents, subterranean termites, wood-destroying organisms, mosquitoes, and plant-feeding pests. Prior to work commencement, the contractor must submit to the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) a detailed list of all pesticides to be used, including trade names, suppliers, active ingredient percentages, registration numbers, treatment types, application areas, and application methods. All pesticides must be EPA-registered and acceptable to jurisdictional authorities, provided in aqueous solution with a minimum service life of two months. The contractor must also submit product data, certificates with EPA-registered labels, and material safety data sheets for all products. Personnel applying pesticides must be licensed specialists according to local regulations and receive appropriate training on correct and safe application.

Installation requirements specify that the contractor must establish continuous horizontal chemical barriers or treated zones around building perimeters at foundations, interior and exterior wall bases, and crawlspace openings. Rodent bait snap traps or glue traps must be placed at intervals of no less than one trap per 20 linear feet along walls per manufacturer instructions. All pesticides must be stored in leak-proof containers labeled in English with the word "Poison," the phrase "Keep out of reach of children," and the registration number. The contractor must provide continuing maintenance service including monitoring, inspection, and retreatment as required at each administrative site, with retreatment frequencies varying by location. Pest control services are required at four locations: Supervisor's Office (Willows), Stonyford Work Center, Elk Creek Work Center, and Alder Springs Work Center, each with designated office and facility areas requiring treatment.
