About this file
This document contains a question and answer file related to a mechanical site preparation and fuels reduction contract opportunity on the Stanislaus National Forest. The contract requires mechanical treatment across 354 acres to reduce fuels and prepare the sites for planting, allowing mastication, chipping, hand piling, feller bunchering, and hand felling and piling. The work must be completed by April 21st. An attached data table provides acreage details by work location. Migrant worker registration is only required if utilizing migrant labor.

Stanislaus NF Mechanical Site Fuels Reduction Q & A Q. Will there be an organized site visit for this project?
A. No, there will not be an organized site visit for this contract.
Q. Can you please verify the total project acres? Our mapping and research comes up with a vastly different figure than 354 acres. Can you please provide a breakdown of acres per work location?
A. I’ve attached the Data table showing 354 acres with all Units and acreage for each. It does equal 354 acres. This data table shows acreage per work location (unit).
Q. Can we use any means necessary to achieve desired spacing, (masticate, broadcast chip in place, and hand pile)?
A. Yes, any of these means can be utilized. But CHIP size definition is already included in Schedule C of the contract submitted and it defines the size of chipping where mastication is concerned. Specific items are outlined in this contract due to HUD Grant requirements and cannot be modified by us or they will not pay the contractor.
Q. What is the specific treatment in terms of leave tree spacing? Can we assume to leave a mixed aged conifer stand with spacing of 20' between trees?
A. Since these areas are pretty much barren and being prepped for planting trees due to lack of them from the 2013 Rim Fire, there shouldn’t need to be any leave tree spacing. This is a full mechanical site prep and not a thinning or shaded fuel break contract. We only call for a certain number of trees to remain while others are removed and piled, which is why spacing is not addressed in this contract.
Q. With the current amount of rain forecasted this does not seem like enough time to treat these acres. Is this the current termination date of the contract?
A. Yes, termination is April 21st, and 354 acres can easily be treated in 3 months. Most mechanical contractors can treat up to 10 acres a day, so the average for this contract (even if it started on January 30th) would be 4.3 acres a day of work.
Q. Is the MSRP Form WH510 only required if you plan to utilize migrant workers?
A. Yes, MSPA cards are for migrant workers coming from out of country.
