Mendocino NF Antenna Upgrade and Installation
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Once the old antennas and lines are down do we return the old equipment or dispose of it?The FS does not want the old antennas. Some of the stand offs and brackets that are currently on the tower will be reused. Additionally, there is a requirement for the contractor to purchase new standoffs for the project. The FS only wants the standoffs and brackets that might go unused after they are taken off the tower during the removal phase. As the forest tech I will personally be on site at St. John multiple times per week during all phases of work and I will collect the unused parts that we will be keeping, nothing will need to be taken to any FS location by the contractor.
Is there a landfill nearby? The only landfill site in Glenn county is near the town of Artois and from Willows would take approx. 15 minutes to get to.
Will there be a cut over required for the antennas? Do we need to have the new ones in place and ready before the old ones come down? The FS technicians plan on putting in place temporary antennas while the majority of the work is being done. This will allow for the tower to be stripped of the old equipment and have the new equipment to go up without anything in the way.
Is the FS placing the temp antennas or the vendor? The FS will place the temp antennas.
Can FS provide the manufacturer and model information for the existing tower? No, we cannot confirm the manufacture or model of the tower.
Can FS provide detailed information describing the existing grounding system design for the shelter and tower? (interconnected ground rings, standalone ground rods, etc.,)Ground rod for each leg, bonded to a ring.
Please clarify whether FS desires 4 individual ANT450D antennas or a single, 4 bay ANT450D6-9 configuration with phasing harness?Four individual ANT450D antennas
Can FS confirm all existing Polyphasers will accept N male connectors on antenna side termination?Yes, all of the polyphasers will accept an N male connector at the antenna side of the termination.
Please provide linear distance between shelter port entry and existing Polyphaser location.10'
Can FS confirm if the existing antenna sidearm mounts are SitePro USA3?No, we cannot confirm.
Please describe soil conditions related to installation of concrete foundations and ice bridge support. Soil, sand, loose rock, bedrock, etc,?)Mixed rock and soil.
Can FS provide the tower leg diameter (within ½”?)4.5"
Can you verify if the main listing section- #7- “Lighting” and Grounding… should read “Lightning” and Grounding. It should be Lightning and not Lighting. The title page of the document is correctly worded, but the name of the file is not.
Do you have the latitude and longitude of the tower? Does the Google call it St. John or is there another name?Lat. 39 26.059 Long. 122 41.598 I just checked Google Earth on my phone and it shows it as St John Mountain.

The PWS has this line which I think is missing something. 8. Sweep antennas systems for performance at polyphasors to and provide test results. Did you mean 'at polyphasors to antennas'? The intent of the statement was to test "from the Polyphasers to the antennas".
