Question and Answer for Solicitation # 12505B24Q0040

Q: What is the breed of sheep? For example, 50% polypay/50% Suffolk?

A: Predominantly Suffolk and polypay cross

Q: How many rams do you have?

A: Currently we have 6 rams.

Q: How many sheep do you under one year old?

A: Currently under 25% of the sheep are under one year of age. This percentage may change over the 5-year life of the contract.

Q: What will the shearing surface be? Cement, plywood, or other?

A: All shearing will be done on concrete.

Q: How will the sheep be presented? In a group pen to grab from, single file out of a chute, sidedoor out a chute?

A: Most sheep will be presented to the shearer by a caretaker. Some will be at minimum housed in a small confined pen.

Q: Will there be anyone to help catch the sheep for shearing or is there a system set up where the sheep will be right by the shearing station?

A: Yes, there will be people to help catch sheep and/or a system next to the shearing station.

Q: Are there any special requirements for the clothing/equipment we need to bring to the facility?

A: We will provide clothing (coveralls, shorts, T-shirts, socks, boots and required PPE) for sheep that are to be shorn in inside containment. Coveralls and boots will be provided to wear over clothing for infected sheep outside.

Q: What equipment will be provided for shearing the infected sheep? Will we need to provide our own protective clothing for shearing the infected sheep?

A: We will provide clothing (coveralls, shorts, T-shirts, socks, boots and required PPE) for sheep that are to be shorn in inside containment. Coveralls and boots will be provided to wear over clothing for infected sheep outside. We provide “sunbeam” style clippers to shear infected sheep housed inside and a shaft driven wall mount with hand piece for infected sheep housed outside.

Q: What is the make and model of equipment provided for infected sheep? Handheld/handpiece?

Power Plant? Jointed shaft/flexible shaft? Comb make, model, width, number of teeth, bevel (long, short, medium)? Cutter make and model? Who sharpened the combs and cutters last?

A: The handheld is Oster/sunbeam style. Lister Nexus. Flexible shaft. We just ordered new 13 tooth flare comb Blackhawk 92 shearing combs and 3 inch Spitfire shearing combs from Premier

1. New combs and cutters

Q: Will all shearings be done on weekdays?

A: All shearing will be done during units core hours of 8 am to 3 pm Monday through Friday.

Q: How much of a notice will we be provided before the date our services will be required?

A: Once an award has been made we will work with the vendor to schedule the shearings. We will try to provide a two week minimum between when an order is issued against the IDIQ and when it will need to be completed. The “clean sheep” will need to be done the first week of April. That is a hard date. If the award is not able to be made until the last week of March, we will still need the shearing of the “clean sheep” to be completed within the first week of April.

The other groups will be somewhat more flexible as to the date when the shearings will need to be completed.

*Note: Be certain to review the SOW as it includes all of the requirements that must be met when it comes to providing the sheep shearing services.
