About this file

This document outlines specifications for a benchtop clean steam, humidified air, and heated air generator sought by the US Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service Field Research Implementation and Information Delivery Midwest Area. Key requirements include a benchtop unit not exceeding 12" x 20" x 22" capable of generating precise clean steam or humidified/dry heated air with variable temperature from 120-180°C and 250°C, respectively, flow rates from 0-50 g/min and 0-250 l/min, and discharge pressure from 0-6 bar. Additional specifications include a 1000-watt minimum heater, external temperature sensor, insulated discharge tube, microprocessor controls and display, fully automatic shut-off, and one-year warranty. Delivery to 1815 North University Street in Peoria, Illinois is required within 120 days of purchase order issuance.

BENCHTOP CLEAN STEAM, HUMIDIFIED AIR, AND HEATED AIR GENERATOR

General Information

1.0 Scope of Work

Vendor is to deliver a benchtop unit that functions as a steam generator, humidifier, and dry air heater with controls for varying temperature, humidity, and flow rate. The unit should contain the following features:

1) Benchtop unit.

2) Generates pure steam, heated humidified air or dry air with variable temperature, humidity, and flow rates.

3) Variable temperature heated tube to boost the discharge stream temperature and prevent steam from condensing.

4) Microprocessor control and display for setting and monitoring operating parameters.

5) Fully automatic operation.

6) Warranty.

2.0 Background

Steam is widely used to clean or sterilize items, humidity control in clean room or saunas, or in pharmaceutical and food manufacturing processes where contaminants from condensate is undesirable.

Purified water is used to produce pure steam or add humidity to air or another gas. For research work, it is necessary to have precise control of operating parameters such as temperature, humidity, and flow rate of the steam, humidified air, or dry air. This 3-in-1 unit under consideration will be useful in simulating or optimizing conditions in oilseed processing such as seed tempering, desolventizing/toasting, and oil deodorization. A benchtop unit is desirable where laboratory space is limited.

Contractor Requirements

3.0 Technical Requirements / Tasks

Technical requirements:

1) Laboratory bench top unit – not to exceed 12” x 20” x 22” (W x H x D)

2) Switchable function as precise clean steam generator, humidified, and/or dry air (gas) heater.

3) 1000-Watt minimum heater.

4) Variable steam temperature from 120 to 180 oC.

5) Variable steam flow rate from 0 to 50 g/min or 3 kg/h.

6) Variable heated dry/humidified air from ambient to 150 oC.

7) Variable flow rate of dry/humidified air from 0 to 250 l/min.

8) Discharge steam or dry/humidified air pressure range from 0 (vacuum) to 6 bar(a).

9) External temperature sensor.

10) Insulated braided stainless steel heated discharge tube length - 6 ft

11) Variable temperature control from ambient to 400 oC for heated discharge tube.

12) Wetted parts made of PTFE and stainless steel.

13) Microprocessor control and touch screen display for setting and monitoring operating parameter such as flow rate, temperature, humidity, and pressure.

14) Fully automatic operation including auto shut down of the unit when set limits are exceeded.

15) Alarm to alert operator when pump is running dry or actual conditions are above the set limits.

16) Swagelok 1/2" steam and dry/humidified outlet fittings.

17) Power: 208-230 VAC, three phase, 50-60 Hz.

18) 1 year warranty.

Delivery: Government will be present during delivery and installation of equipment to 1815 North University Street, Peoria, Illinois. Delivery of the equipment will require the use of a lift gate.
