SPECIFICATION DOCUMENT
Bench Top Extruder
General Information
1.0 Scope of Work. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Center for Agricultural
Utilization Research in Peoria IL. has requirement for a bench-top extruder. Contractor is to deliver a bench-top extruder capable of performing small scale discontinuous batch extrusions. The unit should contain the following features:
• Bench-top extruder
• Chiller Unit
• Liquid feeding system
• Feeder screw
• Screw flexibility kit
• High volume feed screw kit
• Volumetric screw feeder
• Top barrel
• Power cord(s)
• Warranty
2.0 Background. This instrument will be used to evaluate polymer blends, additives, and reactive extrusion conditions. Many plastic products on the market are processed by extrusion. An extruder would allow for screening of processing conditions and early-stage prototyping of plastic parts.
Contractor Requirements
3.0 Technical Requirements
• Bench-top size: 90 in x 60 in x 60 in (L x W x H) or less.
• Process: discontinuous batch extrusion
• Screws: co-rotating twin screw
• Screw design: segmented screws
• Barrel length: 40:1
• Heated Zones: 7 minimum
• Sample output: minimum output of 30 grams per hour or less, maximum output up to 1 kilogram per hour or greater
• Feeders: Single screw and liquid feeding system (at least 2 m Feeding tube)
• Feed Ports: 6 or greater
• Power rating: 1 kW drive or greater
• Temperature range: 25 – 300 degrees Celsius or greater.
• Maximum torque: 5 Nm or greater
• Maximum pressure: 80 bar or greater
• Screw speed: 10 to 500 RPM or greater
• Touch screen control
• Installation and setup
• Ability to add additional attachments (pelletizer and blown film) as needed.
• 1 year warranty
4.0 Deliverables / Schedule. Equipment will be delivered to 1815 N University, Peoria, IL 61604. Delivery will be no later than 120 days after purchase order is provided to the vendor.
