Questions from Industry

BOR Extruder

Q1. Is this solicitation requesting an additional Extruder aside from the recent Award

12505B23P0196 to LEISTRITZ ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES CORP?

Response: No, this is a separate requirement.

Q2. If it is an additional unit being purchased along with the Leistritz machine, would you like a similar-sized diameter machine? Or do you have a preference for the diameter size of the extruder? 25mm diameter would be about the largest to accommodate a 40:1 L/D and keeping in about 90” in length.

Response: We do not have or plan to acquire another extruder at this time. Are you referring to the screw diameter? If so we would like to have what is typical. The brochure for the ZSE 12 HP-PH previously provided by Leistritz is listed as having a 12mm screw diameter. This should be fine for our purposes.

Q3. Is there a preference for a closed barrel or clamshell barrel design for this solicitation?

Response: Clamshell barrel

Q4. Do you have a general raw material construction and feed rate desired, it is important information for selecting the correct feeder systems.

Response: Raw material will generally be pellets of commercial biopolyesters (PLA, PBAT, PEF, PHA, etc) as well as novel polyesters-typically in the form of crude pellet or a powder. Extruder will typically be starve fed, so a plunger feeder is needed. Otherwise, a feeder that can achieve 30-50 g/hr on the lower end for solids is desirable. A liquid feeder for adding chain extenders and reactive components at a feed port further down is also needed. Depending on cost, we may elect to only get a plunge feeder for the time being and purchase additional feeders at a later date.

Q5. Is water cooled and electric heat sufficient for heating and cooling of the extruder barrel?

Response: Yes

Q6. Is a table required to be supplied with this SOW, or is there existing furniture the

Extruder will be installed on?

Response: The brochure for ZSE 12 HP-PH that was previously sent says that the extruder comes on a mobile base frame. If the extruder provided does not have this same design, then yes a table will need to be included in the SOW.

Q7. Is there a preference for Siemens or Allen Bradley touchscreen controls?

Response: No preference.

Q8. Solicitation 12505B23Q0152 for the Award 12505B23P0196 had a 365-day delivery. Is there a possibility to ask for a longer lead time for this current Solicitation? Currently, it is required for 120-day delivery.

Response: Yes

Q9. If the delivery date cannot be extended past the 120-day delivery, can I supply a machine manufactured by a Chinese Company that Prescott Machine is the North American representative for? We coordinate the project, shipment, and installation and Prescott

Machine is the POC for any future service, repairs, and parts needed for the extruder.

Response: N/A

Q10. The specification calls for power cords what is the voltage? Could you provide a picture of the power receptacle?

Response: 250V, 3 Phase

Q11. On previous jobs to the USDA in Peoria, the following electrical requirements were:

480V, 3 Phase, 60Hz / Meet NEC and NFPA safety regulations / Should it be the same for this proposal?

Response: See voltage above, otherwise yes.
