Questions and Answers
Q = Can you please clarify the amount of demolition for the job on Builder's Exchange: 2023- 2B56 -- Wooster / U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Services (USDA-ARS) / Building Demolitions. We have reviewed the drawings, but it is not clear if complete buildings are coming out or if selective interior demo is taking place. I tried calling the number listed online but it was disconnected. Please advise. Thank you!”
A = The scope is identified in the SOW. See; 3.0, 4.1 (see 4.1 e. We do not provide actual “amounts”). SOW pages 40-93 provide further elucidation as to the scope of the demolition work.
Q = I have been reviewing the specs for the Thorn Complex. They answer the questions I had from before. Can you advise: if lead based paint and or asbestos is identified will these matters be subject to a change order. It is not feasible to pay for these inspections as part of the bidding process to know in advance. Thanks for your clarification.
A = It is not the intent of the SOW to allow for a change order to account for hazardous materials. It is assumed that the Bidders have evaluated the buildings, along with the various elements of the buildings and that knowing the age of the buildings and elements, along with a visual inspection of the facilities would lead to bidders’ assumptions of what is likely hazardous and should be accounted for in a proposal.
Q = Please clarify the backfill portion of the project: It does state we are to backfill with approved materials compacting in 8" lifts. Please clarify if they want a specific fill? We typically use a gravel type material to prevent the top soil from washing down through porous material, cover with 4" of topsoil, then seed. Are we matching the surrounding grade? The area surrounding the entrance would be a pretty significant slope. Just looking for a specific end state.
A= The backfill and grading requirements are noted in Spec Section 02 41 16; 3.1 G and H:
“Contractor to backfill all excavations with inorganic clean soils compacted in maximum 8” loose lifts to minimum 90% maximum dry density per ASTM D-698.”
“Site to be filled, leveled, graded, fine graded and seeded. The top 3” of soil shall have an organic content capable of supporting good turf growth.
Contractor shall establish the turf as part of this Contract; meaning grass must be established prior to Final Completion and Final Payment.”
