Questions and Answers through 8/29/22

1. The attached is a product substitution request for Allegion products for both hollow metal doors and frames as well as door hardware. I’ve looked thru the hardware sets and can confirm our products will accommodate the SFIC core required at your facility.

Answer: The manufacturers are listed as a basis of design spec and we will allow other manufacturers as long as they are equal or better. Substitutions will be evaluated during the Material Submittal process after award.

2. I am putting together some product substitution requests for the aluminum-framed entrances & storefronts section (084113) and aluminum windows section (085113), and have a question regarding the impact resistance requirements. Section 08 4113 has hurricane impact resistance listed at 2.1-J. (see snip below), and the aluminum windows section (08 5113) does not list any impact resistance requirements.

With this project being in Iowa, I wanted to confirm the storefront & entrances in fact will need to meet these hurricane impact resistance requirements. If you can review and reply to confirm either way, it would be greatly appreciated.

Answer: Yes, it is required due to atmospheric changes lately, derechos, as well as tornados. Iowa has been seeing more lately.
