12455020R0003 Questions and Answers Responses to questions received:
-Will silt fence be required around temporary stock pile areas during construction?
Silt fence may be required if the stockpiled material will be stored for more than 24 hours or during periods of rainfall.
-Will a track truck be required for the entire 2 week period?
The track truck will need to be used intermittently throughout the construction period.
-The contract calls for additional small stone and also includes NCDOT class rating stone on Page 2.4 of the Design. Will these materials be needed?
No. Native material on-site will be used from the stream channel to construct the riffles.
-Will the site need to be surveyed?
No. The contract does not require surveying.
-Coordinates for the site:
35.17840 N
84.29253 W
-Do we plan to complete the project before the end of the planting season?
Yes, all work should be completed.
Additional Questions, See Answers Below in Red.
1. How far away from the site are the trees, limbs and root masses to be used?
1. Is all construction to be done from the bank? Both sides?
1. How close to the site can a road truck come to deliver boulders?
1. The specs call for 24 x 24 x 48” boulders. The quarries I spoke to cannot guarantee size and shape? Your comment please. Or is there a known source?
1. The bid schedule states Matting in linear foot: can you please provide either the width or the square footage (area)
1. The bid schedule states Non-woven textile in linear foot: can you please provide either the width or the square footage (area)
1. The specs refer to “Soil lifts shall incorporate both erosion control blanket and 700-g erosion control matting on each soil lift.” (p6) Please clarify if the erosion control blanket and the 700g erosion control matting is the same. If not please provide more detail.
1. Do you foresee the need for any other equipment (e.g. dozer to level fill and seed bed? Trencher for burying the matting edge? P 7)
1. Is the required silt screen (p 8) an incidental?
1. Is the required additional mulch (p 9) an incidental?
1. Is the coir mat for the soil lifts covered under the coir mat item or does it need to be added to another item? The reason for asking is the coir item show only 500 lf of coir and the toe wood detail shows 2 lifts also the channel looks to be around 600+ LF long. I know that normally we just matt what is needed but I just wanted to make sure this is covered.
1. Can we get lowboys to the site or will we have to unload and walk the track hoes a good distance?
1. Do you plan to use the material from the dam onsite or will this material need to be hauled off?
1. There is an area adjacent to the stream that we have designated as a “borrow area”. There are some trees within this area and there will also be some trees available from the temporary access road.
1. Given the nature of stream work, it is safe to assume that there will be a need to access both sides of the stream bank and work within the stream channel itself.
1. The project is within approximately 300’ of a gravel state road.
1. The contract specs allow for some variability in the size of the stone but we will need to meet the desired sizes as much as possible in order to construct the in-stream structures.
1. The typical roll of coir matting (coconut fiber) is approximately 7’ wide.
1. See Specs on Bid Items sheet. Coir Matting: 700g/m2, ~7’ wide Non-Woven: minimum 4 Ounce Fabric, 6 Feet Wide Coir mat 700g as specified for this product or equivalent:
https://beltonindustries.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/700.pdf
1. We will not use the erosion control blanket in the soil lifts.
1. Besides the equipment identified, the only equipment would be what is required to deliver stone to the site.
1. See Bid Items sheet.
1. It is anticipated that leaf litter available on site will be used as much as possible for mulch.
1. The 500 feet of coir matting should be sufficient since we will not be building soil lifts throughout the entire project. Banks will be constructed as directed by the designer.
1. Lowboys should be able to access the site. The site is located approximately 200’ from a gravel state road. This road has a very low traffic volume.
1. The waste material from the dam will need to be hauled off-site.
