About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document for the Murphysboro HVAC Replacement contract opportunity. The document addresses 20 questions from potential contractors regarding the scope, specifications, site conditions, and procedural requirements for replacing HVAC equipment at a Murphysboro facility.
The project involves two line items: Item 0001 covers replacement of a gas furnace and A/C unit, while Item 0002 addresses replacement of an A/C system. Replacement specifications are detailed in attachment CO2 SOW and include a York furnace (Model P4HUC20N0001A, Serial WGLM0E368) with 100,000 BTU input and 80,000 BTU output, and an Advanced Distributor Products air handler unit (Model YE50160E210B2705AP, Serial 7112D20501). Contractors must meet or exceed specifications but are not required to match brands or AHRI-certified systems; however, all units must function together. The existing furnace is located in the basement with an upflow configuration in a very small space with ductwork above the units. A site visit is not required but recommended to assess unit placement. The contractor is responsible for verifying all field measurements, obtaining permits and inspections, and coordinating work schedules with the building manager during normal business hours (8 am to 4:30 pm). Underground refrigerant lines are anticipated to be reused and flushed rather than replaced, and field transitions or modifications to accommodate the new evaporator coil are acceptable. No electrical upgrades, crane services, hazardous materials, or thermostat/control replacements are anticipated. Additional required documentation includes forms referenced in CO1 Attachment A on page 8 regarding evaluation and basis for award.

A: The replacement units are in attachment CO2 SOW.
2. Q: Is a site visit required or recommended prior to submitting a quote?
A: Site visit is not required but it is recommended to assess placement of the units.
3. Q: Are there any preferred brands or approved equipment manufacturers for this project?
A: There is no preferred brand, the specifications may be met by several manufacturers.

7. Q: In reference to the system to be replaced, is the furnace in the attic? Is it a horizontal flow or upflow? Is the attic accessible from the floor with a ladder or an attic stairwell?
A. The furnace is in the basement with a walk-in exterior door. I believe it is an upflow unit.
The 3 units are in a very small space, and the ductwork is above the units.

A. Field transitions and modifications are acceptable. The unit should fit the same space as the one being replaced.
10. Q: The Statement of Work references "Flush refrigerant lines (underground)." Can the
Government confirm whether the existing underground refrigerant line set is to remain in service and be flushed and reused, or if replacement will be required if the lines fail pressure testing or are otherwise determined to be unsuitable for reuse?
