About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document for Solicitation 1240LU26Q0060, a Request for Quotation issued by the Department of Agriculture Forest Service for the Kading Cabin Water System Repair project on the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest. The document provides clarifications on four key project inquiries submitted by potential contractors.

The Q&A addresses site access and equipment logistics, confirming that rock may be encountered during trenching but blasting is not anticipated. The mountain access road is in good condition with typical potholes, and the final four miles are single-lane with pullouts; the site accommodates large trailers, lowboys, and semi-trucks with adequate turning radius in the adjacent campground loop. Regarding contractor logistics, onsite camping is permitted at no fee, though contractors must haul in their own campers as the cabin will remain unavailable. Critically, the document clarifies project scope by confirming that installation of liners and import of borrow material are not included in the project scope; referenced construction sheets are provided for information only, and all other terms and conditions remain unchanged. This set-aside solicitation for small business concerns targets contractors capable of water system repair work on remote federal property with limited support infrastructure.

GAOA Kading Cabin Water System Repair Helena-Lewis & Clark National Forest April 15, 2026

The following questions and answers are being provided for informational or clarification purposes only.

Question & Answer:

Q: I was wondering if you might hit rock that needs broken up while trenching on this project?

A: Rock may be encountered, but we do not anticipate that blasting will be required.

Q: How good is the road into the cabin? Can we haul a mini excavator in on a trailer?

A: The road is a typical mountain, native surface road with a few potholes but it is otherwise in good shape. Only the last four miles are single lane and there are pullouts if needed. The site is easily accessible with a large trailer or lowboy and there is a loop in the adjacent campground for a semi with lowboy to pull through.

Q. I saw the note that onsite camping is permitted. Is that the use of the cabin or would a camper need to be hauled in?

A: A camper would need to be hauled in as the cabin will not be available. No fee would be required for camping.

Q. I'm assuming the installation of the liner and import of borrow material is part if this project. Is there a BLM pit or other source of import material in the area or would it need to be imported from Helena?

A: Sheets 7 and 8 are existing construction and shown for information only. The liner and borrow are not part of the project.

All other terms and conditions remain unchanged.
