Q: Do contractors need a “bid bond”?
Bid bonds are only required for proposals that exceed $150,000. A payment bond applies between $35,000 and $150,000 and a performance bond applies after $150,000. Bid bonds must be submitted before the offer due date both digitally and via mail per the instructions in Section L.
Q: Are wire gates going next to cattle guards Yes, wire let-down gates will go in next to cattleguards. See amended plans.
Q: Can timeframe be extended?
Yes, this is up to the COR and the needs of the District, but generally we can extend contracts if additional time is justifiably needed to complete the project.
Q: Do posts need to be drilled into rock?
Yes- posts will need to be drilled into rock.
FP14 Section 619.03 (b) (1) states Where solid rock is encountered without overburden, drill line post holes at least 14 inches (350 millimeters) deep. Drill end, corner, gate, and pull posts at least 20 inches (500 millimeters) deep in the solid rock. Make the hole width or diameter at least 1 inch (25 millimeters) greater than the post width or diameter. Cut the post to the required length before installation or drill the hole deep enough to set the post at the required height. Set and plumb the post and fill the hole with grout. Thoroughly work the neat hydraulic cement grout into the hole to eliminate voids. Crown the grout to drain water away from the post.
Where solid rock is covered with soil or loose rock overburden, set posts to the plan depth or to the minimum depth into the solid rock as specified above, whichever is less. When solid rock is encountered before the plan depth, grout the portion of the post in solid rock and backfill the post hole from the solid rock to the top of the ground with concrete.
Page S-1 of the plans state “Proposed wire cribs/ rock jacks are negotiable upon approval of design by COR”
Below is an acceptable wire crib design.
Q: Do braces need to be welded or clamped?
Page S-1 of the plans states “Bracing shall be attached to posts using connections manufactured for this purpose”
If the contractor can show proposed welded or clamped connections are manufactured for attaching braces to posts either method would be acceptable.
Q: Where are the gate locations?
Gates will be located next to each cattle-guard, and across any roads that do not have a cattleguard.
Q: Do caps need to be metal or is plastic suitable?
Plastic is suitable.
