Questions and Answers for RFQ# 1240LT24Q0040 Stone Cellar Cabin Repairs

1. Could you also please clarify how many coats of stain and clear are required both inside and outside?

Two coats of natural stain shall be applied to the exterior walls.

One coat of (Natural) stain plus two coasts of the clear, like Symphony.

2. Would the entire kitchen area get painted white or just the dividing wall?

The celling does not need to be painted. It would just be the walls that need painting. There are 4 walls that need painting. In the picture of the kitchen, it shows one wall and the dividing wall. I do not have another picture of the other two walls. One does have a window in it and the other is smaller with the doorway coming into the kitchen.

3. Do you have any pictures of the cabin, both inside and outside?

Attached are 4 pictures.

4. When the SOW requests that the stain and paint be removed from the interior/exterior of the cabin I am assuming that’s referring to peeled areas correct? Sand and scrape those areas.

It is referring to Media Blasting for the interior and exterior walls of the cabin.

Media blasting refers to the process of propelling an abrasive media against the surface of a material in order to clean, smooth, or roughen the surface, usually in preparation of the surface for subsequent treatment such as painting. Different blasting media may be used depending on the intended affect and may include sand, metal shot, or even crushed walnut shells. Some blasting is done wet. Dry media blasting may generate significant amounts of dust, both from the breakdown of the blasting media itself as well as from the material being blasted.

5. Do you know the brand and type of stain previously used? Water based or oil based?

Do not know the brand or type of stain previously used.

6. What areas require paint with a latex paint? Just the white walls and white ceiling in the kitchen?

Only the walls in the kitchen require white latex paint; no not have to paint the ceiling.

7. To be clear two coats of stain and two coats of clear coat are desired? On both the interior and exterior stained surfaces (with exception to the porch?

For the Interior: One coat of Natural stain plus two coats of symphony interior clear coat. For the Exterior: two coats of Natural stain applied to walls.

8. Is the only areas to be stained and painted in the interior the walls? No ceilings, trim, or doors inside need done.

Yes, only have to stain/paint interior walls; do not have to do ceilings, trim or doors.

9. Is “natural stain” the color to be used? Will that go semi-transparent?

Yes, Natural stain is the color to be used. It does not appear to be available in semi-transparent.

10. Is it one natural stain for the logs and one white color for what was painted white previously?

Yes, natural stain for the logs and one coat of white paint for the kitchen walls.

11. Could you please let me know who the previous incumbent was and the corresponding contract number/ value for the award.

There is no past contract history for this cabin. It was done in house at least 15-20 years ago.

12. Could you also please clarify how many coats of stain and clear are required both inside and outside.

For the Interior: One coat of Natural stain plus two coats of symphony interior clear coat. For the Exterior: two coats of Natural stain applied to walls.

13. Would the entire kitchen area get painted white or just the dividing wall?

Only the walls in the kitchen require white latex paint; do not have to paint the ceiling.
