QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
1. Could you provide a name and number of a McCall district employee who is familiar with the area to answer questions?
Answer: Savannah Steele, 208-634-0415 is the recreation specialist for the McCall District and most familiar with the trail conditions. Paul McCloskey 928-814-2771 will be the COR for the project
2. What are current trail conditions?
Answer: Trail has been logged out each summer for the past several years. There is minor tread restoration work needed but no major slumps or slides are expected.
3. Can we camp in the trailheads?
Answer: Camping is allowed at the trailheads. If contractor is staying more than 14 consecutive days a camping permit will be issued.
4. Is it reasonable to expect trail maintenance to be performed to spec - slough and berm removal, ditch cleaning, waterbar reconstruction- to be done on all 32 miles in one season?
Answer: Yes, with a proper crew size all of the work could be completed in one season.
5. Is it reasonable to take a mini excavator all the way through?
Answer: There are a few rocky sections on the Bear Pete Trail that will be difficult to get a mini excavator through. It is anticipated that the tread restoration could be completed by hand.
6. Can a moderately skilled rider take a motorcycle all the way through both trails?
Answer: Yes
7. How likely would a proposal be entertained that called for some portion of the work to be done next summer?
Answer: With the delayed advertisement we would consider some work occurring in 2025
8. Can a mini excavator safely ford the creek on the northern access of trail 116?
Answer: See general notes on Sheet 3, Trail 116 does not tie into the road system. It was put on the forest map but work the section of trail in the state and private land was never completed.
9. Does the Payette National Forest - Trail Maintenance French Creek and Bear Pete Ridge have any pedestrian trail bridges?
Answer: There are no trail bridges on those routes. This is just a trail maintenance project.
10. What type of equipment is required for this project?
Answer: It is up to the contractor to determine what equipment they will use. Work is expected to be feasible with hand tools. Is it all hand work or mini excavator or both?
If a mini excavator is used it should fit within the trail tread to prevent damage to other resources.
11. Is there a reroute planned and building new trail?
Answer: This is just a trail maintenance project. The reroute portion of this project was completed in an earlier phase of work.
12. Any type of structure to build like bridges?
Answer: There are no structures to be built. Only clearing logs, brushing, and tread restoration.
