About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document addressing specification clarification for a precast box culvert procurement. The document addresses a single substantive inquiry regarding the placement and manufacturing flexibility of a tapered inlet throat component. The response clarifies that the tapered inlet throat requirement can be satisfied through either integration into the precast box culvert section itself or incorporation into the inlet headwall/wingwall transition system, with the determination based on whichever approach is most practical for the manufacturer. This flexibility allows contractors to optimize their manufacturing processes while maintaining compliance with the functional requirement for the tapered inlet throat feature.

Questions and Answers:
Could you please confirm whether the tapered inlet throat is required to be incorporated into the precast box culvert section itself, or if the requirement may be satisfied through a properly designed inlet headwall/wingwall transition system compatible with the culvert?
The tapered inlet throat can be integral to the culvert itself or the headwall, whichever is easiest for manufacturing.
