3) Visual Inspection - Acceptance is based on visual inspection of the work for compliance with the specific contract requirements. Use prevailing industry standards in the absence of specific contract requirements or tolerances.
4) Partial and Final Acceptance – When a segment of the project is completed, a final inspection of that segment may be requested. If the segment is complete and incompliance, it may be accepted. Notify the CO when the entire project is complete to schedule an inspection. If work is determined to be complete, the inspection will constitute the final inspection. Final acceptance relieves the contractor of further responsibility for the project. Do not begin work until the necessary controls for that particular phase of work have been implemented. Do not modify the type, size, or location of any control without approval.
When erosion control measures are not functioning as intended, take corrective action to eliminate or minimize pollutants in storm water discharges from the project.
2) Before site disturbing activities, construct sediment controls around the perimeter of the project including filter barriers, diversion, and settling structure, as applicable to the work performed. Limit the combined clearing and grubbing operations to 8 acres of exposed soil at one time. Implement temporary controls in the incremental stages as project work proceeds.
3) Construct silt fence, berms, and fiber rolls and socks to reduce the velocity of runoff to allow sediment to settle.
3.10 Clearing & Grubbing
1) Construct erosion control measures.
2) Clearing and grubbing removal limits are shown in the typical sections.
3) Do not damage vegetation outside of the limits shown. If damage occurs, repair or replace vegetation in an acceptable manner. Treat cuts or scarred surfaces of trees and shrubs with tree wound dressing.
4) Clearing within the clearing limits shown, clear trees, brush, downed timber, and other vegetation. Cut trees so they fall within the clearing limits. In areas where stump removal is not shown on typical section, cut stumps flush with or below the final ground line.
5) Tree tops and limbs shall be disposed of in accordance with Disposal Method G. Limbs from trees outside of the clearing limits but extending within 4’ of the edge of road shall be removed to a height of 14 feet from the roadbed elevation. These limbs are to be cut flush with the tree.
6) Outside of the limits of stump removal shown on the typical section, cut stumps to maximum stump height shown in table below. Utilization standards for merchantable timber are listed below. Fall and buck merchantable material into lengths not to exceed ____8_____ feet.
Pieces (logs) meet utilization standards when such pieces would have met Utilization Standards if bucking lengths were varied to include such material.
7) Merchantable timber is Government property. Merchantable timber shall follow Disposal Method I, Decking, and be bucked into lengths not to exceed 8' and can be placed in convenient locations adjacent to the road for firewood cutters to collect.

3.11 Disposing of Material
1) Dispose of debris, unsuitable material, and excess material in accordance with the following methods as specified in this contract:
• Method F - Scattering. Scatter slash in designated areas without damaging trees. Limb all logs. Place logs and stumps away from trees, positioned so they will not roll, and are not on top of one another. Limb and scatter other slash to reduce slash concentrations. When scattering for erosion control, place slash as flat as practicable on the completed slope.
• Method G - Chipping. Use an approved chipping machine to chip slash longer than 3 feet. Deposit chips on embankment slopes or outside the roadway to a loose depth less than 3 inches. Method G
• Method I - Decking. Remove brush from designated log deck areas. Limb and top logs.
Logs not meeting the Utilization Standards described in Subsection “Clearing and
Grubbing” shall be cut to lengths less than 8 feet and decked in designated log deck location. Merchantable timber not associated with an existing timber sale shall be cut to length meeting the Utilization Standards described in Subsection “Clearing and Grubbing.” Deck logs so that logs are piled parallel to one another; can be removed by standard log loading equipment; will not damage standing trees; will not interfere with drainage and will not roll.
