Bly Roof Site Visit Questions and Answers

Note: Section Number call outs, reference the Specifications that are part of this contract.

1. Existing office building has a different roof type than the rest of the buildings. Does the Government want them all the same?

• Yes, plan to replace all roofs including the office building with shakes that meet the requirements in Section 073136-2. Available manufacturer products are also listed in this section.

2. Is a vapor barrier required?

• Yes, install according to manufacturer recommendations. Additional information can be found in SECTION 073136-2.03.

3. Is plywood installation required prior to installation? This would require full roof tear off.

• It is anticipated that new decking will have to be installed or replaced (if it exists) to comply with roofing manufacturer’s recommendation methods of installation. See Section 070150.19 for more information.

4. What type of ridges are required for these roofs?

• Ridges and Hips: After field shingle installation is complete, install double row of shingles over 6 inches (152 mm) wide metal flashing. See Section 073136-3.06 for more details.

5. There is vegetation that is growing over some of the roofs, will pruning be allowed to reduce leaves that would eventually fall onto the roof in the future?

• Vegetation that is touching roofs shall be trimmed back to be at least 3 feet from the roof edge/surface. Any additional trimming that is required shall be approved by CO prior to trimming.

6. Is the shingle exposure to be set at 10 inches on every building? We noticed on the site visit, that currently, not every building has the same exposure and want to be certain about this.

• Yes, all buildings to be set at 10 inches to match.

7. Can one prime contractor employee fill the roles of Superintendent, QCM, and

SSHO?

• Yes, one employee can fill the three roles.

8. According to the "Wood Roof Decking" section of the specifications, it seems to imply that we are to anticipate 100% roof decking installation on this project because most buildings do not have suitable decking? We just want to be sure if this is true about these roofs.

• Yes, anticipate that most roofs will not have suitable decking.

9. In our experience, some projects have tax exemptions for buying materials while others do not. Will you guys be providing the winning contractor an Oregon Sales Tax Exemption Certificate?

• We do not provide any tax exemptions contractors are responsible for any required state or federal taxes.
