About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers file for the Burt Creek Sale Preparation at Sam Houston National Forest contract. The file addresses technical details about plot sampling and marking for a Forest Service contract involving layout, mapping, Cut Tree Marking (CTM), and Leave Tree Marking (LTM). Key clarifications include that the final cruise plan and number of plots cannot be determined until after Leave Tree Marking is completed, with approximately 60 plots anticipated. The inspection plots are specifically for Leave Tree Marking quality control to ensure the specified Basal Area is achieved, and are separate from the plot cruising portion of the contract. An additional query was raised about a demonstration area marked on the map, which appears to be an example setup for contractors to understand the desired work specifications.

Questions and Answers I was wondering how many plots per acre or acres each plot represents on the variable plot cruising. Since it is on a per acre basis for the bid there needs to be more information to calculate this part. I know quality control is a plot per 5 acres, and I presume that is the same interval for LTM cruising but just want to double check.

There will be approximately 60 plots. The final Cruise intervals and number of plots won't be determined until after the units have been leave tree marked. The final cruise plan with the number of plots can't be determined until after all the LTM marking is completed.

The inspection plots are for the Leave Tree Marking alone, not the Plot cruising portion of the contract. This will be quality control to ensure that the Basal Area specified in the contract is achieved. The BA is separate from determining the sampling intensity for the cruise.

The short is that there are two different tasks here and the FS will provide the cruise based off of our determinations of how many trees need to be cut and the variability of the stands. Only then will we know the actual amount of cruising that needs to be done (plots) Another point of clarification. I saw an area labeled demonstration area on the map but not mentioned in the solicitation. Is there difference specs for that area or disregard that area on the map?

There’s an area on the map we marked and set up as an example for the contractors to see what we want.
