Sherando Bathhouse Replacement Project Pre-Bid Date: August 2, 2018 Questions from the contractors:

1. How far away is the septic tank from the bathhouse site?

There are two separate septic tanks. Each is immediately adjacent to the building site, approximately 2 feet from the above-ground sanitary sewer stub.

2. What staging areas are permissible to use nearby the bathhouse site? The staging area available to the contractor will be the adjacent campsite to the right of the building site as well as the paved parking lot (down below) at the beginning of group area loop.

3. Did the demolition of the original building involve any compaction of the subgrade left behind? Or will it still need to be dug out and re-compacted?

The demolition of the original bathhouse did not include any compaction activities. The building site will need to be compacted per the foundation specifications.

4. Is compaction testing by an independent firm required? Is 90% (as stated in the specs) an acceptable compaction level?

All compaction requirements are stated in the contract specifications. The contractor shall be required to verify compaction efforts are performed in accordance with contract specifications.

5. Is concrete testing by an independent firm required (for the pad)? Any air or slump testing needed on site?

All concrete placement requirements are stated in the contract specifications. The contractor shall be required to verify concrete placement efforts (including air entrainment and slump) are performed in accordance with contract specifications.

6. Please clarify where the borrow site location exists. (is a map available?) The borrow site is located in the Sherando Lake Recreation Area behind a locked gate behind the Williams Branch picnic area.

7. Can the contractor camp at the rec area and stay beyond the allowed 21 day limit?

The contractor will be allowed to camp at the recreation area and stay beyond the 21 day limit if necessary.

8. Is it possible to extend the length of contract time beyond the stated 90 days. Yes, if weather prohibits work for a substantial number of days an extension of time can be negotiated.
