Summary: Requests for Information - Solicitation 1232SA26Q0972
This document is a Questions and Answers file addressing inquiries from potential contractors regarding a federal laboratory renovation and equipment installation project. The solicitation covers work in multiple laboratory spaces (Labs 118 and 120) involving installation of Kewaunee Evolution workstations, cabinet refurbishment, utility connections, and related infrastructure modifications. Key products and services include laboratory benches with pre-piped air, gas, and vacuum lines; cabinet painting using either electrostatic or direct-to-metal (DTM) paint methods; electrical circuit installation; and mechanical utility connections including ¾-inch compressed air, natural gas (threaded black steel pipe), and vacuum lines. The project is tax-exempt and subject to prevailing wage requirements.
Critical specifications and constraints include: alternative manufacturers for the Evolution table are acceptable if functionally equivalent; lab countertops are approximately 3 centimeters thick; phenolic resin is acceptable though epoxy resin is preferred for worksurfaces; dust containment is required in active lab spaces; individual shutoff valves for new piping are mandatory; ceiling service panels require dedicated electrical circuits; nitrogen testing by a licensed contractor is sufficient; cabinet interiors and exteriors must be painted; paint fumes must dissipate within 24 hours; and work must occur during normal business hours (6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday). The anticipated project start is between October 2026 and February 2027, pending material acquisition. The USDA will remove existing furniture and cabinet contents, modify existing utilities if necessary, and provide ceiling service panel specifications. No drawings or detailed cut sheets are currently available, and period of performance may be extended post-award based on equipment lead times.
