About this file

This is a Statement of Requirements for the procurement of a digital polymerase chain reaction (dPCR) instrument to replace an obsolete real-time PCR system at the USDA-ARS Coastal Plains Soil, Water & Plant Research Center in Florence, South Carolina.

The USDA-ARS seeks to purchase and deliver a complete dPCR instrument system that meets five minimum technical requirements: (1) utilizes digital PCR technology for target quantification, (2) processes at least 16 samples per run, (3) provides a minimum of four optical channels for multiplexing capability, (4) includes complete analysis software, and (5) ships fully assembled. The equipment will enable expanded analytical capabilities to target microorganisms in complex soil environments, supporting the agency's priorities in improving farmer productivity and profitability through high-quality analytical results and technology development. No government-furnished equipment or materials are applicable to this procurement. The instrument must be delivered to USDA-ARS, Coastal Plains Soil, Water & Plant Research Center, 2611 West Lucas Street, Florence, SC 29501. Technical inquiries regarding the requirements should be directed to Thomas F. Ducey at (843) 669-5203 x112 (office) or (843) 245-7020 (cell). The document does not specify pricing terms, response dates, award dates, or set-asides.

Statement of Requirements Project: Digital Polymerase Chain Reaction (dPCR) Instrument

GENERAL INFORMATION

1.0 Scope of Work: Purchase and delivery of a digital polymerase chain reaction (dCPR) instrument

2.0 Background: This equipment will replace a current but obsolete real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) instrument (Roche LightCycler). The benefits of dCPR over RT-PCR include greater accuracy, simplified setup, higher-throughput, and reduced reagent costs. Use of ddPCR will increase our capabilities to target select microorganisms in complex environments (i.e., soil) and untangle the complex interactions between soil characteristics, agricultural treatments, and environmental conditions. This will allow us to support expanding priorities aimed at improving farmer productivity and profitability by providing high quality analytical results with which to provide recommendations and develop new technologies.
