About this file
This is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) document clarifying technical and logistical requirements for a maize genome sequencing contract opportunity.
The government seeks sequencing services for maize genomic samples with flexibility in methodology, requiring only that the selected approach be capable of sequencing fragmented genomic regions. Contractors must deliver both raw sequencing data and processed genotype data in VCF format via physical hard disk delivery to a designated location; cloud-based storage solutions such as AWS buckets are not acceptable alternatives. The maize genome size is estimated at 2.4 Gb, and freeze-dried leaf tissue samples will be available for shipment on approximately 07/10/2026, with each sample containing 0.1 gram of leaf tissue. The document references an attached Statement of Work for additional technical specifications and requirements.

1. Could you please confirm what type of sequencing is required for this requirement? Specifically, are you seeking:
• Whole genome sequencing, or
• Targeted sequencing using either:
• the 3,000 marker AgriSeq Maize Panel, or
• the 160 Marker QA/QC Panel?
Answer: Any sequencing methodology capable of sequencing fragmented genomic regions. Please read the attached SOW for more information
2. The SOW mentions that we need to "Provide both raw sequencing data and processed genotype data in VCF format on a hard disk." Is the hard disk delivery to a physical location a requirement? If not, may we upload the data into a secure
AWS bucket to ensure fast and safe data transfer and storage? The security keys will only be provided to approved collaborators. We include 90 days of free unlimited storage and transfer, which can be extended.
Answer: Hard disk delivery
3. What is the estimated genome size of Maize?
Answer: 2.4 Gb
4. What is the approximate date the freeze-dried leaf tissue can be shipped?
Answer: 07/10/2026
5. What is the amount of leaf tissue per sample that can be submitted?
Answer: 0.1 gram per sample
