About this file

The document is a Questions and Answers file for a USDA Agricultural Research Service solicitation (12305B25Q0028) for two autoclaves. The solicitation seeks commercial laboratory equipment, with quotes due on 6/11/2025 at 2:00 PM PST, to be submitted via email to Elizabeth Wilson.

The procurement will be awarded using a Lowest Priced Technically Acceptable (LPTA) methodology, with vendors required to submit a firm fixed price quotation, documentation of technical capabilities, place of manufacture, and Sam.gov Unique Entity ID. The delivery location is 600 East Mermaid Ln., Wyndmoor, PA 19038, with installation included. Text version

1. The bid states the vendor is responsible for all “utility disconnections”. Please confirm the utility supply valves are within 5’ of the existing autoclave. (*Please note, that the vendor cannot be responsible for any supply valve that does not function properly. Typically, the customer replaces all supply valves to avoid any concerns during installation) ANSWER: Yes, utility supply valves are within 5’ of the existing autoclave.

2. Please confirm the make/model of the existing autoclave and provide photos so we can properly price out this scope of work. To price this out accurately it would be very helpful to have a drawing or dimensioned sketch of the area. Since different manufacturers have different outside dimensions, it is important to verify the fit of any proposed piece of equipment.

ANSWER: Not available at this time.

3. A previous response stated that an “air-activated door seal” is not acceptable. For clarification, rest assured, the autoclave uses steam as the sterilizing method, however, the door gasket uses an air-seal, in lieu of steam to extend the life of the gasket. This is a sealing method used by many manufacturers and does not affect the steam sterilization process in any way. Please note: if only “steam activated door gaskets” are acceptable, this will significantly limit the number of bidders. Please review this item and respond to the question “is an air activated door seal acceptable?”

ANSWER: Correct as written, only “steam activated door gaskets” are acceptable.
