Graham Site Showing Questions:
August 20, 2018
What is a tile break?
This site has been previously drained with 6” HDPE pipe, that could be up to 6’ deep in places.
These tiles must be excavated and broke to prevent any future draining.
Compaction Class?
The compaction class for this site will be Class “C” compaction, and the compaction for structures shall be performed in 9-inch lifts, with two passes in each direction with equipment, the compaction for the spoil area shall be in 12-inch lifts, with one pass in each direction with the equipment. Referred to Specification 23 - Earthfill
How will NRCS do the layout and quantities?
NRCS will lay the site out just as soon as the winning bidder clears the site, the quantities will be figured using GPS survey grade equipment (TopCON GR-3), in which NRCS will survey the site at completion to calculate the quantities.
When would the contractor be expected to Start?
Ultimately it would be best for the site to begin construction before the rainy season, so mid to late fall.
Would October be an acceptable start time?
Yes
Are SWPPP Permits required?
No, if the construction follows the neat lines of the drawings, no permits will be required.
What is the extent of clearing required in the wooded area?
There will be some wooded area to be cleared, to complete the southern end of the Northern Dike, but this should be minimal part of the clearing.
Main Ditch Backfill?
The Main Ditch is not to be backfilled but excavated along with the installation of two ditch plugs as shown on the drawings.
What is a ditch plug?
A ditch plug is a small earthen structure to prevent the flow of water through a channel, refer the Typical Section of a Ditch Plug on sheet 9 of the drawings.
Are the any specifications on the construction entrance?
Nothing specific
Will NRCS provide the GPS layout file for GPS enabled equipment?
No, if you would like this, you will have to build this file on your own.
Where are the Control Points that the contractor can use?
The control for the site is clearly marked on the drawings, but they consist of sticks of rebar with survey caps, at the base or around the easement markers, and there are several MAGNAILS driven into the road, but be aware that there are other nails driven into the road also, so verify that point you are using is on the drawing.
What is the typical levee height?
Levee heights are not very tall, most no more than 3’ tall, but the height does very due to the lay of the ground.
Can the contractor mulch instead of burn and bury?
Yes
Water on the site?
This site has the possibility to be wet more so on the northern portion of the site. There is a sink hole that was surveyed in, and included on the drawings, that we have seen dry, and wet at different times.
How wet is the Site?
When we (Denise, and Cody) were out here two and a half weeks ago, there was water in the pond, and in the northern drain, but we did not have any issues navigating the site in a UTV.
Any Hazardous materials on the site?
There are no known hazardous materials on this site, except for maybe a tire or two that will need to be removed from the site and properly disposed of.
Will the contractor be allowed to work in the rain?
Yes, if the site is workable construction can proceed, as long as our pollution prevention measures are functioning as expected. This these measures fail the construction must stop, and the issue must be replaced immediately.
