IDIQ Trail Construction and Service Work, Solicitation 1205G119R0004, Amendment 2 Page 2 of 4
The revised plans are hereby changed with the plans attached.
The changes are in bubbles on sheets 2, 6, 7, and 8. They include:
• The new bridge will be approximately 4.5’ from the bottom of the channel not 5.5’ feet (bottom of new girders approximately at the same elevation as the deck on the existing bridge).
• The new bridge will be 36’ not 31’ in length
• A borrow source was made available through an option item to import material for approach fill. Fill retainer rocks and logs may be found onsite. Minor reroutes to approaches of trail may be necessary to achieve proper turning radii.
• Only glulam diaphragms acceptable. See sheet 9.
Based on the change in plans, the Schedule is hereby changed and replaced with the schedule included in this amendment. The changes are in red.
Enclosed are some questions the Government has received prior to this amendment:
Question: The plans state that the bottom of the stringers will be a minimum of 5.5 feet above the lowest point in the stream. It would be at least 3 feet higher than the bridge is now. The amount of fill and the retaining walls system you would need to build for an approach to this height would be huge.
Answer: When the Government was out at the site last year, we measured the top of the deck on the existing bridge to be approximately 5.5 ft above the lowest point in the channel on the upstream side. The intent is to have the new bridge placed where the bottom of the girder is at the same elevation as the top of the deck making the new bridge approximately 22” higher (deck compared with deck) than the existing bridge. That clear height is required to meet hydraulic capacity standards for the bridge. The Government is open to adjustments of the bridge alignment to reduce the approach work as much as possible.
Question: The bridge plans show both with a railing and with a curb only. Could you please specify which is required for this bridge.
Answer: This question should all be answered in the table on sheet 7. Curb required. Bridge clear width (inside of curb to inside of curb) is 36” so total bridge width would be greater (see sheet 9 Bridge with Curbs Section). Running planks are required.
Question: Do you know if current decking for all structures is treated and if it can be scattered after demo or if the Contractor needs to pack it out.
Answer: The decking and curbs on the bridge at MP 1.1 are treated. The decking on the puncheon or other bridge is treated. All treated timber elements will need to be removed from NF lands and is the property of the Contractor.
Question: Explain the required treatment for the new decking.
Answer: See sheet 9 for required treatment. Treatment required shall be in accordance with AWPA specs and should be treated by the supplier. Any material that is cut or drilled in the field shall be field treated with copper naphthenate.
Question: Are any limitations about cutting material for the puncheon. Can trees be cut in sight of the trail?
Answer:: No specific limitations. Yes, trees can be cut in sight of the trail – the stumps will need to be flush cut.
