About this file

This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for a federal contract opportunity to replace an existing exclosure fence along the North Fork Negrito Creek in the Gila National Forest, Reserve Ranger District, New Mexico.

The SOW requires the contractor to furnish all labor, equipment, transportation, and specified materials/supplies necessary to install a new 2-rail metal pipe / 2-wire smooth strand exclosure fence, approximately 0.51 miles in length. The work includes transporting the metal pipe (provided by the U.S. Forest Service) to the site, installing the new fence according to the technical specifications, and removing the existing 4-strand barbed wire fence. The purpose is to replace the damaged barbed wire fence with a more robust metal pipe and smooth wire fence that is better able to withstand environmental conditions. The contractor will have 365 days to complete the project once work starts, and is responsible for the security of all government-furnished materials and contractor-owned property at the site.

The existing North Fork Negrito Creek exclosure fence is a 4-strand barbed wire and metal post fence located along the North Fork of Negrito Creek. The exclosure fence purpose to protect the riparian area along the creek by prohibiting entry inside the exclosure by domestic livestock. Due to environmental conditions at the site the fence is often damaged due to falling trees or flood waters creating gaps where livestock entry possible. The intent of this project is to replace the barbed wire fence with a welded, 2-rail metal pipe / 2-wire smooth strand fence that is more robust to floods and other disturbances.

The exclosure fence is located along the North Fork Negrito Creek on the Reserve Ranger District of the Gila National Forest. The site is located at NW ¼ Sec 17, T8S, R17W in Catron County, New Mexico. The site can be accessed by traveling southwest on State Road 435 (Frisco Plaza Road) to Forest Service Road 141. Then on Forest Service Road 141 for approximately 22 miles to County Road 019 (Rainy Mesa Road). The site is located approximately ½ mile above the confluence of the North Fork and South Fork of Negrito Creek at the end of Rainy Mesa Road. The site can be accessed via a primitive road across private property. Landowner permission to cross private property is required. The landowner is amenable to granting access permission.
