About this file

This document contains the Questions and Answers from the Bidder Conference held on October 25, 2018 for the Illinois Department of Human Services' Invitation for Bid (IFB) to remove and replace heating and cooling water looping piping in four (4) buildings at the Shapiro Center in Kankakee County, Illinois. The project involves removing and replacing supply and return lines, valves, and piping in each building, with 29 bedrooms in Building 100 and 28 bedrooms in the other three identical buildings. The work is required to be completed during Fiscal Year 2019, which ends on June 30, 2019. Prevailing wage rates apply, and the use of Pro Press fittings is acceptable.

The Q&A session addressed numerous technical details of the project, including the presence of asbestos in elbows and fittings, requirements for ceiling tile and grid work, and the location of the system shut-off. Bidders were informed that they can submit bids through the BidBuy system, and that the Center's staff will be responsible for removing the ceiling grid. Additionally, soft solder is acceptable if pipes are not soldered using the Pro Press method.
