Cable Audit – Cable Replacement – Wichita Airport Authority City of Wichita – Wichita Airport Authority
NOVEMBER 2025
PROJECT DEFINITION
The City of Wichita is seeking proposals from firm(s) for Cable Audit – Cable Replacement for the Wichita Airport Authority.
The Wichita Airport Authority (WAA) is implementing a Cable Management System (CMS) to track and maintain records of the cable plant at both airports. To support this effort, the WAA requires work be performed to document existing conditions and provide an accurate set of data regarding the horizontal cable plant as further defined in this RFP, as well as services to remove and replace specific cables.
This project is broken down into four related base tasks as noted here, and one Add/Alternate task.
Additional work elements and responsibilities that the Contractor shall address are defined in the details of this RFP.
• Task 1 - Horizontal Cable Audit: Provide an audit of the horizontal telecommunications cabling in use at ICT and AAO, including: the testing of the cable; identification of the endpoints of the cable;
labeling of the cables and associated hardware; and the creation of documentation documenting the testing and identification suitable for importation into the WAA’s Cable Management System.
• Task 2 – Fiber Optic Cable Audit: Provide an audit of the Multimode and Singlemode Fiber Optic
Cable in use at ICT and AAO, including: the testing of the cable; identification of the endpoints of the cable; labeling of the cables and associated hardware; and the creation of documentation documenting the testing and identification suitable for importation into the WAA’s Cable
Management System.
• Task 3 - Systimax Cable Replacement: Provide services to replace existing horizontal cabling identified during the Horizontal Cable Audit as Systimax cable, including associated termination hardware, patch panels, and equipment at both the field and TR ends of the cable run.
• Task 4 - Failed Cable Replacement: Provide services to replace existing horizontal cabling identified, other than the Systimax Cable, during the Horizontal Cable Audit as failing to meet the required test standards, including associated cable termination hardware at both the field and TR ends of the cable run.

City of Wichita 2 RFP #250352
EXISTING CONDITIONS
General
The airports have horizontal cable infrastructure plants that serve a wide range of systems at the facilities at both airports. Most of the existing horizontal cable plant is Category 6, with some Category 6A UTP in use. There is also some legacy Category-5e cabling in place. The horizontal cable plant in the ICT terminal and out-lying buildings is not well documented or accurately identified, which represents challenges for both on-going operations and maintenance.
The ICT baseline horizontal cable plant is largely built out in accordance with industry standards, and includes Category-type cabling running from termination or patch panels in telecommunications rooms (TRs) to Work Area Outlets (WAO) serving the Owner’s systems and services, including:
• Workstation data services
• Voice services
• Electronic visual information display systems
• Building Controls
• Paging
• Baggage Handling System
• Parking
• Security systems, including video surveillance and access control systems
The ICT infrastructure also includes Multimode (MM) and Singlemode (SM) fiber optic cables used by the WAA for backbone telecommunications and other services on the site. This is exclusive of any fiber owned and provided on site by third parties, such as Internet Service Providers (ISPs).
The information following provides additional clarity regarding the telecommunications infrastructure, number of TRs, estimates of cable counts, and other information that should be useful to the Proposer in developing their proposal in response to this RFP.
