About this file
This is a General Notes document prepared by Graff Surveying LLC for the Borough of Saxonburg's John Roebling's Historic Wire Rope Workshop Restoration project in Pennsylvania. The document outlines critical requirements for contractors undertaking foundation renovation and site drainage improvements to the historic structure. The topographic survey was conducted in August 2022 using Pennsylvania state plane coordinates (South Zone) with a 0.5-foot contour interval and US survey feet measurements. Key contractor responsibilities include verifying exact locations of all existing underground utilities before commencing work, notifying PA 1 Call prior to excavation, staking out all construction baselines and verifying setbacks and clearances, maintaining positive drainage throughout the project, and arranging a pre-construction meeting with the Contracting Officer and Designer. All disturbed areas must be stabilized with four inches of topsoil, seed, and mulch, and the tops of all existing utility frames and covers within the contract limits must be adjusted to match new grades.
The document emphasizes that contractors bear full responsibility for the cost of repairs resulting from failure to locate and preserve existing utilities, and that numerical dimensions and elevations in the drawings supersede any scaling discrepancies. Underground utility descriptions shown on the plans are based on field observations and have not been verified against record utility drawings or field test pits, requiring contractors to conduct their own verification. Contractors must also submit a work plan addressing traffic control for vehicles and pedestrians, as well as lay-down and staging areas for equipment and materials, to the Saxonburg Borough municipal office for approval. The survey certifications represent professional opinion only and do not constitute a guarantee or warranty.
