The Contractor shall refer to the Schedule of Items and referenced specifications under Section 5 when making estimates of quantities or work.

2.0 Background

Under this contract 80 bear lockers will be procured and installed by the Contractor at two campgrounds on the Plumas National Forest. The areas where the bear lockers will be installed are in mountainous locations which are typically under snow from December through April. Antelope Lake usually melts out in spring before Lake Davis and both campgrounds can be under snow by December. Access to both sites is via state highways and paved county and Forest Service roads. The campgrounds are busy with visitors in summer months, so construction periods must work around these busy summer months.

3.0 Location

Grasshopper Campground is located approximately 5 miles from the town of Portola, CA at 45° 27' 3.6720" N 113° 7' 25.7880" W. From downtown Portola take West Street for 5 miles, turn right on Lake Davis Road and go 1 mile, then take a left turn on Grizzly Road. Go approximately ½ mile and Grasshopper Campground is the second campground on the left.

Lone Rock Campground is located approximately 30 miles from the small town of Taylorsville, CA at 40° 11' 43.0001" N 120° 37' 1.9999" W. From Quincy take Highway 70/89 north towards Greenville to Arlington Road, take a right turn and go approximately 5 miles to Taylorsville and from there take Antelope Lake Road approximately 20 miles to the lake. At the dam, turn left and go 2 miles, and then turn right on Fruit Growers Road. The campground is 1 mile from the Fruit Growers Road intersection on the right.

4.0 Estimated Start Date / Period of Performance

The estimated start date is August 15th, 2026. Lone Rock Campground will not be available to install bear lockers until September 28th, 2026. Grasshopper Campground will not be available to install bear lockers until October 12, 2026. If earlier installation dates are desired and require a campground closure, the Contractor must inform the COR two weeks in advance of the installation date, and it must be reflected in the contractor's schedule. The end of the performance period will be no later than May 14th, 2027, when the campgrounds open for the 2027 season.
