About this file
This is a specification section for aluminum-framed entrances and storefronts for Gull Lake Middle School. The project requires exterior and interior storefront framing, exterior and interior manual-swing entrance doors, and door-frame units manufactured by Tubelite, specifically the TU24000 model. The specification calls for thermally broken framing members measuring 2 inches by 4.5 inches with clear anodic finish and mechanically retained glazing with gaskets on four sides. Entrance doors must feature wide stiles with 5-inch nominal widths and snap-on extruded-aluminum stops with preformed gaskets. All components must be obtained from a single manufacturer and include field-fabricated stick system assembly. The specification mandates preinstallation conferences, shop drawings with full-size details and isometric intersections, product data submittals, and entrance door hardware schedules prepared by the supplier. Installation must comply with manufacturer's written instructions and achieve strict erection tolerances including plumb within 1/8 inch in 10 feet and level within 1/8 inch in 20 feet.
The manufacturer must provide a five-year special warranty covering structural failures, noise or vibration, material deterioration, water penetration, and operating component failures from the date of Substantial Completion. An additional five-year finish warranty covers color fading exceeding 5 Hunter units, chalking exceeding No. 8 rating, and paint adhesion failures. All aluminum-framed systems must meet rigorous performance standards including ASTM E 330 structural testing, maximum air infiltration of 0.06 cfm per square foot for fixed framing at 1.57 lbf per square foot pressure differential, and water penetration resistance tested per ASTM E 331 and AAMA 501.1. Energy performance certification requires a maximum U-factor of 0.41 Btu per square foot and a solar heat gain coefficient not exceeding 0.40 per NFRC standards. Entrance door hardware must comply with BHMA standards and include Grade 1 pivot hinges, Grade 1 butt hinges with nonremovable pins, weather stripping, and sweeps. The contractor must furnish specialized tools and maintenance instructions for ongoing hardware adjustment and replacement upon project completion.
