About this file
This document is the Library of Congress Standard Furniture Technical Requirements (SFTR) specification, which provides comprehensive technical specifications for various furniture categories for federal procurement. The document covers detailed requirements for multiple furniture types including panel-supported workstations, bench-based workstations, freestanding wood and laminate desk systems, metal/laminate workbenches, storage solutions, conference tables, seating, and accessories.
Key specifications include warranty requirements (typically limited lifetime with specific exceptions), modularity standards, testing compliance with ANSI/BIFMA and other industry standards, and extensive technical requirements for each furniture category. The document specifies precise details such as material compositions, finish options, mounting mechanisms, cable management capabilities, adjustability features, and environmental sustainability certifications. Manufacturers must provide products that meet stringent requirements for construction quality, ergonomic design, fire safety, electrical components, and aesthetic versatility across multiple furniture lines.
