Responses to Questions – Lewis-Houghton Civics and Democracy Initiative

Week Ending May 28, 2023

5/31/2023 Page 1 of 1

# Question Answer 1 The provided guidance mentions that the

Library will accept only one proposal from the same organizational department. I represent applicants from the XXX Graduate School of Education. From my understanding, this would mean that each school at XXX University can submit only one proposal. I have attached the guidance document with the relevant requirement highlighted on page 7.

Could you kindly confirm if our interpretation is correct?

Yes. Per Section B of the amended Notice uploaded to grants.gov on May 25, 2023, multiple departments within the same institution may submit up to one proposal each.

2 I have a question regarding the LOC grant --is the grant institutionally-limited? Or simply a restriction on units within an organization submitting multiple projects? I see this sentence in the NOFO:

“The Library will accept only one proposal from the same organizational department.

Applicants may be included in multiple proposals as members of collaborative partnerships.”

Would separate departments within one university be able to submit different project proposals in which they are the sole member?

Yes. Per Section B of the amended Notice uploaded to grants.gov on May 25, 2023, multiple departments within the same institution may submit up to one proposal each.

3 I am wondering if local governments are eligible to apply for the Lewis-Houghton Civics and Democracy Initiative?

Yes. Per section C of the amended Notice uploaded to grants.gov on May 25, 2023, local governments are eligibly to apply for this opportunity.
