About this file

This is a Statement of Work for a propulsion motor bearing hose replacement service on the USS Hershel Woody Williams (ESB 4). The work involves replacing the Port Drive-End (DE) bearing hydrostatic jacking hose on a RENK Model SCNFQ 56-560 synchronous propulsion motor located in Machinery Room 2. The Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), RENK, must provide authorized field service representatives to execute all maintenance and repair actions, including disassembly, hose replacement, reassembly, and operational testing of the propulsion motor pedestal bearing. The work requires coordination with ship's force for lockout/tagout procedures, temporary removal and protection of accelerometers and RTD probes, drainage and proper disposal of lubricating oil in accordance with applicable environmental regulations, and installation of temporary hard blanks to prevent contamination of the lube oil piping system.

The contractor must conduct comprehensive inspections and testing following manufacturer standards, including operational testing of the jacking pump and hose in the presence of the Chief Engineer and Port Engineer to ensure no leakage or failure, bearing clearance measurements, bearing insulation testing, and a closeout inspection prior to final reassembly. The contractor must submit condition-found reports documenting as-found conditions, measurements, adjustments, and as-released bearing conditions in PDF format, signed by the technician and countersigned by the Company's representative. All work on this ship critical safety item must be performed by OEM-authorized technical providers or MSC-qualified non-OEM providers using only original or MSC-qualified parts. Critical safety considerations include high-voltage electrical hazards and inconsistent electrical color coding on the T-ESB class vessel, requiring all cables to be tested and verified de-energized before work begins. Potential OEM contacts include bearings@renkusa.com, RC.Sales@renk.com, and Clay.Chapman@renk.com.

STATEMENT OF WORK REQUIRED

Provide the services of the Original Equipment Manufacturer OEM (RENK) to procure and replace the hydrostatic jacking hose in the Port Propulsion Motor Drive-End Bearing.

Coordinate with ship’s force to have associated equipment locked and/or tagged out per ship’s lock out/tag out policy. When the maintenance is complete, coordinate with ship’s force to have associated equipment unlocked and/or tagged in per ship’s lock out/tag out policy.

Drain and dispose of any liquid in accordance with all local, state, and federal laws.

Disassemble the bearing to replace the internal hydrostatic oil pressure hose.

Temporarily install hard blanks on all open piping and hoses to prevent foreign material contamination of the lube oil piping system.

Temporarily disconnect accelerometer wiring and remove accelerometers. Stow accelerometer in a protected location to prevent damage.

Temporarily remove RTD probes prior to rolling out the lower bearing halves. Stow RTD probes in a protected location to prevent damage.

Replace the internal hydrostatic jacking hose. Turnover old hose to ship’s force for inspection.

Reassemble the DE bearing using Reference 2.1, paragraph 6.5, Examination and Re-assembly, steps 1-21.

Re-install any hard blanks previously removed.

Re-connect accelerometer wiring and accelerometers previously removed.

Re-connect RTD probes prior to rolling out the lower bearing halves previously removed.

Inspections and Tests Conduct an operational test of the Port Propulsion Motor Drive-End Jacking Pump and internal hydrostatic jacking hose in the presence of the Chief Engineer and Port Engineer. Ensure no leakage or hose failure.

Record journal bearing clearances, preliminary and post bearing inspection thrust.

Conduct closeout inspection with the Chief Engineer prior to final re-assemble of the bearing.

Perform bearing insulation test using Reference 2.1, paragraph 3.10, Checking the Bearing on a Stationary Machine.

Reports Submit condition found report documenting the as found condition, all measurements recorded, adjustments performed, and as released condition of the DE and NDE bearings.

1.1.2 When inspection, service and testing reveal any deficiency a condition report is to be submitted to the OMT REP with recommended repairs and parts required. Submit one electronic copy in Portable Document Format (PDF).

Submit a report that includes “as released” condition of the propulsion motor pedestal bearing. Submit one electronic copy in Portable Document Format (PDF).

All reports and checklists are to be completed and signed by the person who carried out the inspection and maintenance work and countersigned by the Company’s representative.

Manufacturer’s Representative Provide the services of an OEM authorized field service representative to accomplish all work and testing on the propulsion motor pedestal bearing identified in section 3.0 ensuring compliance with the manufacturer’s standards and performance specifications.

This work item requires maintenance and repair actions to be performed on a MSC ship critical safety item. Only original equipment manufacturer (OEM) authorized technical field service providers or MSC qualified non-OEM technical field service providers and OEM authorized or MSC qualified non-OEM parts shall be used to accomplish the requirements of this work item for this ship critical safety item including oversight and guidance on all aspects of equipment as-found condition inspection, removal, disassembly, reassembly, repairs, modifications, reinstallation, and testing as applicable.
