About this file
This document outlines specifications for the manufacture of ultrasonic calibration standard blocks for the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime. The agency requests the production of six calibration standard blocks made of HY-80 alloy plate with nickel plating, ranging in length from 4 to 17 inches, height from 0.5 to 5 inches, and width of 1.25 inches. Each block must contain five EDM notches located and sized according to attached drawings, with tolerances of +/-0.002 inch for notch depth and 0.015 +/- 0.001 inch for notch width. Notches shall be parallel to the scanning surface within 1 degree. Scanning and other surfaces shall have surface finishes of approximately 125 RA and 63 RA respectively. Dimensional measurements and notch depths must be certified and recorded, with engravings of serial numbers, material specifications, and actual notch depths on the blocks. Product documentation and unique serial numbers for two blocks are also required.

2. Dimensional Tolerances: All units are in inches and dimensional tolerances not specified are +/- .062 inch.
3. Material: MIL-S-16216 HY-80 alloy plate, Calibration standard shall be electroplated to .001 inch with nickel for corrosion resistance.
4. Flaws: Manufacture Five (5) EDM notches on each calibration block at the locations and the depths (from the scanning surface) shown in the respective drawings. The EDM notch depth from the scanning surface shall have a tolerance of +/- .002 inch and the notch width shall be .015 +/- .001 inch. Notches shall be parallel to the scan surface within 1 degree.
5. Surface Finish: Approximately 125 RA on scanning surfaces and 63 RA on all other surfaces
6. Documentation: A certified mechanic qualified to take mechanical measurements shall take dimensional measurements shown on attached drawing and record results. Results shall be within the tolerances prescribed. The certification documentation shall include the S/N for each block, material certification, calibration block dimensions, notch depths and size, and surface finish. If measurements are other than those shown in drawing, record the actual measured dimension.
7. Markings: The calibration standard shall be engraved with the S/N and the alloy/material spec on one side of the calibration block only. The unique S/N for the 4 and 5 inch blocks (JML 01606934 and 01606935) will be provided by the end user upon request and the S/N for the remaining calibration blocks will be assigned by the manufacturer. The actual notch depths as measured from the scan surface shall be engraved on both sides of the block.
