Insulation in Building Construction.”
3. Coatings and Related Materials
All materials used shall meet the following specifications:
AWS Acrylic Polymer 211 Type: UV resistant elastomeric Elongation: >233% at 20%
Tensile strength: 273 ± 20 psi ASTM D2370 Volume solids: 65.4 + 2% Color: White
4. Surface Preparation
Metal Standing Seam (Retrofit)
a. Substrate must be pressure-washed. A minimum working pressure of 4,000 psi with a volume of 4 gallons per minute shall be used to remove all dirt, dust, previous paints and coatings which are delaminating as well as waste products (oil, oil based roof cements, solvents, grease, animal fats, etc). Use industrial detergent if necessary to remove all contaminates. Contact American WeatherStar for additional information.
b. Prime substrate all rusted metal must be primed with a rust inhibitive primer prior to polyurethane application.
5. Polyurethane Foam Application
a. The spray polyurethane foam shall be applied in accordance with the manufacturer’s specification and instructions.
b. Areas to be built-up to remove ponding water are to be filled in with spray polyurethane foam before the specified thickness of polyurethane foam is applied to the entire roof surface.
c. The spray polyurethane foam must be applied in a minimal pass thickness of ½ inch.
d. Spray polyurethane foam thickness shall be a minimum of one inch. The polyurethane foam shall be applied uniformly over the entire surface with a tolerance of plus ¼” per inch of thickness minus 0”, except where variations are required to insure proper drainage or to complete a feathered edge. Also, foam thickness specifications re based on individual substrates waterproofed.
e. The spray polyurethane foam shall be uniformly terminated a minimum of eight (8) inches above the roofline at all penetrations (except drains, parapet walls, or building junctions). Foamed in place cants shall be smooth and uniform to allow positive drainage.
6. Roof Coating
a. Apply AWS 211 protective insulating layer to entire roof surface including vents/ducts at an average coverage rate of 100 sf/gal. Initial coat will lower substrate surface temperature and improve the cure rate and quality of the finished appearance.
b. Apply AWS 211 finish layer to entire roof surface and roof vents/ducts at an approximate coverage rate of 100 sf/gal.
