UNSPSC 70121704: Herd management

UNSPSC 70121704 Herd management is a Commodity code with minimal relevant recent activity in state and local procurement. The three most recent opportunities tagged under this code show almost no alignment with actual herd management work — instead, they span career and technical education instructional resources at a Texas school district, aerial thermal survey services for white-tailed deer population assessment at an Illinois forest preserve district, and executive search services for a city manager position in Georgia. The aerial thermal survey procurement is the only opportunity with plausible connection to wildlife or animal-related work, but it captures survey and monitoring methodology rather than herd management practices such as breeding, feeding, health care, culling, or livestock production oversight that the code nominally describes.

The tagging mismatch suggests that state and local procurement systems may be using 70121704 as a catch-all for animal or wildlife-adjacent work regardless of actual scope, or that the recent solicitations are erroneous classifications. Geographic spread covers Texas, Illinois, and Georgia, but without a coherent body of relevant work, the code does not present a meaningful opportunity stream for vendors with herd management expertise. Business development professionals pursuing this code should verify tagging accuracy directly with issuing bodies before pursuing opportunities, as the posted solicitations do not reflect traditional herd management procurement.
