UNSPSC 31151521: Asbestos rope

Rope made of yarn and long fibers of asbestos and roll brading.

UNSPSC 31151521 Asbestos rope, a Commodity code, covers the procurement of asbestos-impregnated or asbestos-containing rope products that state and local governments buy for industrial, maintenance, and specialized sealing applications. The code nominally describes a narrow product line — rope with asbestos fiber or asbestos composite construction — but state and local procurement activity under this specific code is not visible in recent opportunities. No recent solicitations from state departments, counties, cities, school districts, transit authorities, or special-purpose districts have been identified posting under this code, making current market activity difficult to characterize from contemporary procurement data.

The absence of recent state and local opportunities under UNSPSC 31151521 suggests either minimal demand for asbestos-rope products in the public-sector supply chain or a shift in how issuing bodies classify and source such materials. Regulatory restrictions on asbestos use in many jurisdictions may also suppress procurement volume. Business development professionals evaluating this code should confirm whether relevant opportunities are being tagged under alternative UNSPSC codes, alternative product classifications, or specialty procurement channels rather than standard IFB, RFQ, or RFP issuances.
