UNSPSC 27111705: Box end wrenches

UNSPSC 27111705 Box end wrenches is a Commodity code that captures hand tools for mechanical work, but the recent state and local activity under this code shows a significant mismatch with the code's nominal scope. Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners posted an ITB for janitorial and operational supplies for fire rescue operations — consumable items such as cleaning products, restocking supplies, and facility maintenance consumables — rather than box end wrenches or other precision hand tools. The solicitation does not specify whether box end wrenches are included in the line items, and the scope (janitorial and operational supplies for 47 fire stations operating continuously) suggests the code may have been applied incorrectly to a broad facilities-management consumables contract rather than to specialized mechanical tools.

The county is the sole issuing body with recent documented activity under this code. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, operating 47 stations 24/7, is the end-user organization, and deliveries are coordinated to the Public Safety Operations Complex in Tampa, Florida. The ITB (ITB2600319) closed July 24, 2026, with an estimated contract value of $765,679.84 for a one-year period; standard delivery is required within 10 days of purchase order receipt, with emergency delivery within five business days. The county reserves the right to award by line item, group/section, or overall total net bid price and does not guarantee minimum purchase quantities. The contract may be shared under cooperative purchasing with members of the Hillsborough County Governmental Purchasing Council.
