NIGP 57529: Jacket Loaders, Microfilm

NIGP 57529 Jacket Loaders, Microfilm is an Item code under which state and local governments procure microfilm jacket loading equipment — machines that insert microfilm into protective jackets for archival storage and retrieval. The scope is narrow and highly specialized: state and local procurement activity under this code centers on replacement and maintenance of existing microfilm infrastructure, primarily in records management, library systems, and document preservation environments where agencies continue to maintain microfilm collections alongside digital archives. Issuing bodies are concentrated among state library systems, state archives departments, and county records offices that operate or support microfilm preservation programs; school districts and municipalities also procure under this code when managing historical document collections or complying with retention requirements that specify microfilm as an approved preservation medium.

The source provides no recent state or local contract opportunities under NIGP 57529, indicating minimal procurement activity under this code in the current market window. This reflects the broader shift toward digital document management and away from microfilm as a primary archival medium, though agencies with legacy microfilm collections continue to maintain and occasionally refresh jacket loading equipment to support ongoing preservation workflows.
