Description
- Purpose
- The purpose of this program is to increase alignment between workforce and OST programs and to expand job training and workforce pathways for opportunity youth. Activities performed ymca of the USA (Y-USA) will implement a workforce pathways for youth project (WPYP) with member ymca associations to reach 1,350 youth aged 14-21 who face barriers to employment. Youth today are being unjustly impacted by systemic barriers to employment, low enrollment rates in post-secondary education, and the effects of high unemployment, with disadvantaged youth at highest risk of being left out of the workforce entirely. Deliverables outcome measure 1 - 1,128 youth will complete a work experience. Out-come measure 2 - 591 youth will enter post-secondary education. Outcome measure 3 - 616 youth will enter unsubsidized employment. Local YS will work with their ymca state alliance, which provides support to YS in their state on partnership development planning, advocacy, collaboration efforts among YS, etc.) to establish connections with partners at the state/local level. IT is anticipated that 57 new workforce development, 63 new employer and trade/association, 53 new secondary/postsecondary education, and 64 other new partners will be engaged. Intended beneficiary over three years, Y-USA aims to serve 1,350 new youth aged 14-21 facing barriers to employment including: in-school/out-of-school youth, low income youth, those residing in marginalized communities, youth of color, foster youth, lgbtq youth, parenting youth, homeless youth, disconnected youth, youth with justice system involvement, newcomer youth, as well as those without access to the required soft skills needed to be career-ready.
