The South Carolina Department of Public Health (SCDPH) received a $850,000 Project Grant award under the Maternal and Child Health Federal Consolidated Programs (CFDA 93.110) funded by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau. This 4-year grant, effective July 1, 2024, will support the South Carolina Integration Demonstration (SCID) Project. The project aims to:

  1. Inform state policy and practice decisions around maternal and child oral health integration;
  2. Increase oral health literacy across South Carolina using an organizational health literacy approach; and
  3. Enhance the state's oral health surveillance capabilities.

The SCID Project will focus on testing models of integrated preventive oral healthcare in primary care settings, expand the reach of the existing school-based Public Health Dental Prevention Program, and strengthen partnerships with Federally Qualified Health Centers across the state. The funding will enable SCDPH to leverage its existing network of partners to implement a two-tiered, state and local, improvement approach addressing policy, education, data, and evaluation for maternal and child oral health integration.
