PRIMARY CARE TRAINING AND ENHANCEMENT - RESIDENCY TRAINING IN MENTAL AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH - IN 2021, FREEMAN HEALTH SYSTEM INITIATED A NEW FAMILY MEDICINE RESIDENCY UNDER THE DIRECTION OF BARBARA MILLER, MD. WITH SUPPORT FROM THE PCTE-RTMB PROGRAM, THE HEALTH SYSTEM WILL PROVIDE DIDACTIC CURRICULA AND CLINICAL ROTATIONS IN MENTAL AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH BY FORMING NEW AND EXPANDING EXISTING PARTNERSHIPS. THESE PARTNERSHIPS WILL STRENGTHEN FAMILY MEDICINE RESIDENTS' TRAINING IN THE PREVENTION, IDENTIFICATION, DIAGNOSIS, TREATMENT, AND REFERRAL OF SERVICES FOR MENTAL AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CONDITIONS FOR RURAL, AT-RISK POPULATIONS IN SOUTHWEST MISSOURI. THIS WORK IS SYNERGISTIC WITH NEW ACGME REQUIREMENTS FOR FAMILY MEDICINE AND WILL ACCOMPLISH THE FOLLOWING MEASURABLE OBJECTIVES: 1 GRADUATE FIFTEEN (15) FAMILY MEDICINE PHYSICIANS WITH EXPERIENCE PRACTICING BEHAVIORAL AND MENTAL HEALTH IN MEDICALLY UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES BY JULY 2027. 2 DEVELOP OR EXPAND PARTNERSHIPS WITH TEN (10) BEHAVIORAL/MENTAL HEALTH AND COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS BY JUNE 2023. 3 INITIATE THREE (3) DEDICATED BEHAVIORAL AND MENTAL HEALTH ROTATIONS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH OZARK CENTER (CCBHO) BY DECEMBER 2023. 4 ENHANCE BEHAVIORAL/MENTAL HEALTH CONTENT IN NINE (9) TRAINING BLOCKS FOR FAMILY MEDICINE RESIDENTS BY PARTNER WITH CONTENT EXPERTS: ALIVE & WELL COMMUNITIES, HEALTH LITERACY MEDIA, THE CARE PARTNER NETWORK, NEOSHO & MCDONALD COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICTS, REFUGEE & IMMIGRANT SERVICES AND EDUCATION (RAISE). LED BY DR. MILLER AND GUIDED BY A PATIENT ADVISORY COUNCIL, THIS 5-YEAR PROJECT LEVERAGE A ROBUST, INTERDISCIPLINARY TEAM TO ENGAGE EXPERTS IN ADVERSE CHILDHOOD EVENTS (ACES), TRAUMA-INFORMED CARE, HEALTH LITERACY, HEALTH EQUITY, MINORITY POPULATIONS, SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER TREATMENT, HEALTH-RELATED SOCIAL NEEDS REFERRALS, AND JUVENILE JUSTICE. THE PROGRAM WILL ENHANCE EXISTING TRAINING MODALITIES, BOTH DIDACTIC AND EXPERIENTIAL, AS WELL AS DEVELOP NEW TRAINING MATERIALS AND PATHWAYS. FAMILY MEDICINE AND PSYCHIATRY RESIDENTS WILL WORK IN INTERDI SCIPLINARY TEAMS, ALONG WITH A LICENSED BEHAVIORAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL AND COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKER WHO PROVIDE THE FAMILY MEDICINE PROGRAM CONTINUITY CLINIC WITH WHOLE-PERSON CARE. A FUNDING PREFERENCE IS REQUESTED BASED ON THE FAMILY MEDICINE RESIDENCY MEETING THE HRSA DEFINITION OF A NEW PROGRAM. A FUNDING PRIORITY IS ALSO REQUESTED BASED ON ITS PRACTICE IN RURAL, UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES.
