The U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration (BPRM) awarded $100,000 to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) under the Overseas Refugee Assistance Programs for Africa (CFDA 19.517) on June 24, 2025. This project grant funds a coordinated multisectoral humanitarian response addressing urgent needs of flood-affected populations in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, with performance through December 31, 2025.

The grant supports life-saving assistance prioritizing human dignity and restoration of critical means of existence for flood-affected communities. As a key international humanitarian organization, IFRC will deliver comprehensive services aligned with SPHERE standards for humanitarian assistance, likely encompassing emergency shelter, water and sanitation improvements, healthcare, food distribution, and protection services. The six-month performance period reflects the emergency response nature of flood relief operations, enabling IFRC to provide timely, coordinated assistance to vulnerable populations while advancing U.S. policy priorities in the region.

To address the urgent humanitarian needs of flood affected populations in kinshasa through a timely coordinated and multisectoral response that prioritizes life saving assistance protects human dignity and restores critical means of existence.
