The National Endowment for the Humanities awarded the Alaska Humanities Forum $756,410 on June 1, 2026, under the Promotion of the Humanities Federal/State Partnership program (CFDA 45.129) to deliver humanities education, public programming, and subawards tailored to Alaska's communities and geographic dispersal. The award funds five years of general operating support through April 30, 2031, enabling the Forum to function as Alaska's state humanities council. The Forum delivers the humanities through subawards to local Alaska organizations and public programming designed to connect Alaskans through stories, ideas, and experiences that strengthen communities. Performance occurs statewide across Alaska. The Promotion of the Humanities Federal/State Partnership provides annual general operating support to 56 state and jurisdictional humanities councils nationwide, advancing the NEH's strategic goals of increasing public awareness of and support for the humanities. Participating councils set their own funding guidelines and criteria for assessing subaward proposals, which are widely disseminated within the state. The council must expend funds during the first three years of the five-year performance period.
