State humanities program [promotion of the humanities and humanities scholarship in kansas]

The National Endowment for the Humanities awarded Humanities Kansas Inc. $736,322 under the Promotion of the Humanities Federal/State Partnership program on June 1, 2026, for a five-year period of performance through April 30, 2031.

Humanities Kansas administers annual sub-awards to local organizations for public humanities projects, fosters cross-cultural understanding and civic engagement, deepens public knowledge of community and state history, and delivers educational content on domestic extremism and hate-based violence. The organization expands humanities access statewide through strategic partnerships with libraries, museums, community centers, and other cultural institutions. Work is performed in Kansas.

The Promotion of the Humanities Federal/State Partnership provides general operating support grants to state and jurisdictional humanities councils to advance knowledge and understanding of the humanities and increase public awareness of and access to humanities programming throughout the United States. Councils set their own guidelines and criteria for assessing proposals. Humanities Kansas, as the state's designated humanities council, must expend funds during the first three years of the award period and retain documentation of expenditures and fiscal records for three years following submission of the final expenditure report.
