The American Library Association (ALA) was awarded a $869,732 Project Grant by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) under the Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program (CFDA 45.313) to implement a program to equip library workers with skills and knowledge related to intellectual freedom, access to information, privacy, censorship, free speech, and legal matters. The project will feature synchronous and asynchronous online and in-person training opportunities, utilizing a peer learning "train the trainer" strategy to build capacity within libraries and the library profession. The program will also hire a dedicated program officer to support the design, implementation, and evaluation components. The project aims to help libraries preserve and provide broad access to their cultural, artistic, historical, natural, and scientific collections, and advance the role of libraries as trusted sources of diverse information.
