The Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA), in partnership with the Asian/Pacific American Librarians Association (APALA), will use a $100,000 project grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to host a forum supporting leadership development opportunities for Asian American and Pacific Islander American (AAPI) library workers. The funding, awarded on September 1, 2021 under the IMLS's Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program (CFDA 45.313), will provide 50 library and information science students and professionals at all levels the opportunity to develop strategies and solutions to barriers experienced in developing AAPI library leaders. The forum will produce a white paper outlining ideas for leadership development pipelines and a curriculum outline for a leadership program specifically for AAPI library workers, with all work to be completed by December 31, 2022.
